Fast and silent 2

There is a quiet in the early morning. Right before the birds wake up, and world comes to life. John loves this sound, or absent of. The rain beats down, and fills his ears with a different sound. The rain taps on everything, windows, roofs, cars, and puddles. They all make a unique sound, distinguishable sounds that could tell you everything about your surroundings. The noise made in the storm he finds himself in, is different still. This type of noise is deafening. The only good to this noise is that your enemy can't hear you either.

John has been running hard for days. His concern is not for himself, it's for the child he found on Beaker Street. She seems to be doing better than him. The mystery women sets a break neck speed that's barley human. She doesn't like stopping to eat or sleep, but she does it with out to much complaining. If she wasn't towing us, she might be a lot farther by now.

At first John thought she was moving to find a safe shelter. She passed up some great places. Now he realizes that she is clearly going somewhere, and in a hurry to get there. She doesn't talk much, and John prefers it that way. Even little Beaker prefers silence. John thought that he would hear a lot more gossip with two girls around. Instead he is greeted with a peaceful silence.

They stop to eat in an old movie rental store. They used to rent people entertainment out of this store, by the day. Now it has half a roof and 2.5 walls. It's the smashed and broken shelving that give it away. You get used to seeing establishments in this fashion, and finding signs to know what it once was.

Mystery women can't stand still, she keeps peaking out of the front of the store. I try to see what she sees, she is looking at the building across the street. I spot the patrol walking down the street from our right. In this rain, they can barely see fifteen feet out. We get real small behind some broken shelves. They walk right past, barely even glancing our direction. As soon as they pass, a light shines out of the sewer drain across the street.

The mystery women glances at me, then sprints across the street. She jumps feet first into the sewer drain. John rushes to the back room and finds Bleaker.

"Ok little one, we are going into the sewers. There is a drain pipe across the street. It's not that big, but you should fit." His voice filled with Certainty.

She nods.

"There is a patrol that just past. They walked right past us, to the left. But we want to stay alert. Ok?"

She nods.

John leads her to the front part of the store. He checks the street, he can see the patrol farther down the road. They are all facing the opposite direction. He signals for her to run, she takes off. She gets to the drain and starts to slide her feet in. Two hands reach up and pull her in. John then checks the patrol again, they are stopped. In this rain it's difficult to tell witch way they are facing. But if he can't see them, then they can't see him.

His eyes are glued to the patrol, his hand on his knife. He takes two steps out, crouched real low to the ground. He inspects the street between him and the patrol. He takes one more step, the sprints for the drain pipe. Right before he reaches the drain, he smacks right into to side of a Chinese Solider. The solider didn't even see him coming. They were equally shocked, John pulled his knife and stabbed the solider in the head from under the chin. He pulled the solider to the ground, and shoved his lifeless body into the sewer. And rolled in after him.

After a short drop, John stands to see half a dozen faces staring at him. Not one set of eyes looks happy. He is quiet certain that the two bigger guys want to hurt him. They are looking for him to the body and back, it might be due to what he just did. Oh well. Two large muscular men, one small one, two women and a child, this was his greeting party.

The short guy looks to the mystery women. "What the hell was that? What kinda cowboy idiot did you bring with you? Kat, you never been this reckless before. You're late and what happen to our guide? What the hell Kat?"

Kat shrugs, "The Guide got himself killed, this guy just followed me with this kid." She gestures to Bleaker, "I'm late cause your guide flipped out and brought the entire Chinese Army down on my head. Then this guy thought to take on a squad with nothing but a knife. Damn it's been a long week. How's my garden Tom?"

The other women staring at John ask, "Why did you do that? We have families down here..."

"Enough! We could use the extra suit. We've got more important matters to deal with." the leader injects into the group. "What's your name boy?"

John can feel the others staring at him. "My name is John."

"John, we don't take chances down here. If you don't have to fight, you will let them pass. I'll have 'Big Pete' set you and this little one up with a room. You will have to report to the..."

"Stop" John interrupts Tom, "I'm not staying. I just came to drop Bleaker off, then I'm going off on my own. No offense, but I do better by myself." he eyes the crowd. "And there is no way I can stop killing them. It's just what I do."

Big Pete and the other big guy tense up just a pinch. But John can read that pinch like a novel. "I can appreciate that, I really can. Unfortunately John we are on the verge of a high priority mission. No one can leave until we're done." Tom really doesn't like what he is saying, his attitude radiates off of him. "I'm really sorry John, but you can't leave."

This is a normal rule in these types of groups. John has spent some time with this type of organization, and has been on a mission or two. He knows that they never end well, and lots of people may die. He understands this rule is for their safety. "Ok, I can respect that." he tells the one called Tom. He looks the big guy in the eye, "So,'Little Pete' is it? You are going to show me to my new quarters?"

'Big Pete' smiles. "The name is 'Big' Pete, and right this way little lady." Pete may be nice enough to look at Bleaker while saying it, but John knows that comment was directed at him.
